Lucy's story
“Before moving to Homerton space project, I had lived with my aunt for three years. Along the way we experienced a breakdown in our relationship, which forced me to move out of the house before the situation worsened.
I was introduced to Homerton space for temporary accommodation where I was provided with a link worker whom assisted me with advice on how to set and meet my goals, control my finance and other issues in order to prepare me to become independent. I was listened to and respected as an individual, even though I was only young.
Since moving to my flat, I′ve been able to use all the skills learnt from Homerton space and put them into practice. I′ve been able to save money from my monthly wages, pay rent one month in advance to avoid any arrears and the same technique applies for other utilities bills.
I have completed my BTEC national diploma in business successfully and managed to move into higher education at Queen Mary, University of London. I have also completed a mentoring course to give back some support to people in need. In this activity I have been using all the skills learnt from Homerton space project to provide as much help as I can offer to other people who will hopefully benefit from it and apply it in their daily lives.
In the future, I′m looking forward to finish my degree in business management and if possible move into corporate law through a masters degree course. All of these achievements have only been possible because of the motivation I received from Homerton Space, the belief that people can benefit from others to achieve their personal goals.”
